1. Celebrities LV
A celebrity is a widely-recognized or famous person who commands a high degree of public and media attention. The word stems from the Latin adjective celeber meaning famous or celebrated. While fame is generally considered a necessary precondition for celebrity status, it is not always sufficient. There has to be a level of public interest in the person, which may or may not be connected to the reason they are famous. Many celebrities are only so for a certain amount of time, perhaps after appearing on a television program or doing something to cast them into the public eye, such as rowing the Atlantic Ocean or being the first to do something. There are also specialist celebrities, who are only celebrities to those who enjoy a particular subject and so consider them a celebrity.

A public figure such as a politician or CEO may be famous, but they may not become a celebrity unless public and mass media interest is piqued. For example Virgin Director Richard Branson was famous as a CEO, but he did not become a global celebrity until he attempted to circumnavigate the globe in a hot air balloon. On the other hand, mass entertainment personalities such as soap opera actors or music stars are likely to become celebrities even if the person deliberately avoids media attention.

A famous definition of celebrity comes from the cultural theorist Daniel Boorstin. In his book,The Image: A Guide to Pseudo-Events in America, he cynically describes celebrities as people well known for their "well-knowness".

A small number of celebrities can be considered 'global', in that their fame has spread across the English-speaking world and even into non-English-speaking cultures. These celebrities are often prominent political figures, Hollywood actors, globally successful pop musicians and sports stars. A few examples of internationally-known celebrities include South African politician Nelson Mandela, Hollywood actors Tom Cruise,Tom Hanks and Will Smith, Hollywood actresses such as Sarah Michelle Gellar,Jennifer Lopez, Lindsay Lohan, Halle Berry, Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston, pop singers Robbie Williams, Cher, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Paris Hilton and Madonna, and sports stars David Beckham and Tiger Woods.

The rise of international celebrities in acting and popular music is due in large part to the massive scope and scale of the US media industries, which has enabled US media firms to dominate the English-speaking film, television, and popular music markets. The reach of US entertainment products is further extended by large-scale illegal copying of Hollywood movies and US popular music, which makes inexpensive pirated versions of US DVDs and CDs available throughout South America and Asia.

2. True Religion Jeans, People for Peace, Da-Nang, Sass & Bide, Sweetees, Project E Clothing - OurFashionHouse.com
Renee Roland Patti's designer high-fashion business seems out of place at the back of a nondescript, low-rise office/commercial space in Eastlake. Aside from a small display window and minimal signage, you would never guess what's inside.

Part New York showroom, part warehouse, part boutique and definitely on point with hot, right-now styles seen on the backs of Jessica Simpson, Sienna Miller and Kate Moss, Our Fashion House appears as an oasis on Northeast Ohio's retail fashion scene.

"I'm a trend watcher. I read the fashion mags every day, and I look for who's wearing what," Patti says, explaining the store's ubercurrent inventory. The space is filled with pretty things from Sass & Bide, funky stuff by Heatherette, military chic by Da-Nang and denim from True Religion - a name you've just got to have if you look good in low-rider, hipster jeans.

The periodicals Patti peruses for inspiration include not only traditional fashion publications such as Women's Wear Daily and Vogue but also gossip sheets such as Star and People magazines.

Apparently, watching the trends has paid off for this mother of three girls.

According to Patti, 36, of Eastlake, the originally all-online business generated $19,000 in sales the first year in 2002 and produced more than $500,000 in 2005.

So what are this season's styles that are making the cash register ring?

"Denim is what really made the business from the beginning, and it continues to grow and grow," Patti says. The True Religion line is the biggest seller. Our Fashion House also carries other premium denim from Hudson, People for Peace and Sass and Bide that range in price from $150 to $400.

Shoppers - at the store and online - also will find vintage, distressed preppy polos from Project E from $50 to $70, as well as Da-Nang's spring 2006 collection of military-inspired vintage surplus silk. A right-now pair of khaki walking shorts will set you back $140. For more sophisticated tastes, a Pegah Anvarian open-sided sweater made from 100 percent bamboo sells for $364. At least it's a conversation piece.

Street style shows up in crocheted surfer boots in natural and black for $125. For urban gals, rubber rain boots in a darling antique toile pattern by Tamara Henriques sell for $109.
