About Bensons. Bensons has been involved in the video industry for over 20 years, starting as a video rental shop in West London in 1980. We started selling by mail order in 1985 to customers worldwide.

How To Order. Ordering online at this website is designed to be easy, secure, and hassle free. We do also welcome orders by telephone, fax, or by post if you prefer.

Shipping Rates. Delivery within the UK and for BFPO customers is FREE. Delivery to Europe and the Rest Of The World is GBP 1.00 per disc or GBP 1.75 per VHS Tape.

Delivery Times. We ship most items within 2-3 days, though you should allow 5-7 days. We usually ship by Royal Mail First Class to UK & BFPO destinations, and by airmail to Europe and the Rest Of The World. For larger orders, we may use a courier.

It's our tenth anniversary but the idea stays the same - to share interesting films and to celebrate one of the world's great communal art forms. Thousands of DVDs are released every month; we select the best and most worthwhile and let you know about them - in our monthly film catalogue, on our website, in email newsletters and in the podcast.

MovieMail was started by Carol Hunter in 1996. Carol was never a film intellectual, just someone who really loved movies and noticed that most of her favourites were not easy to get on video and many of them were not made in the English Language.

MovieMail's first order was received on July 7 1996 (for Route de Corinthe, The Tin Drum and Le Boucher). At that time Carol lived on the Scottish Hebridean Island of Islay - not the best choice for fast delivery. MovieMail had a web site within 3 months of its start up. The site has expanded with the business.

In Autumn 1997 Carol moved to Hereford in England, taking MovieMail with her.

In 2000 we opened an office in London to house our publication and marketing efforts.

In April 2005 we formed Moviemail (Jersey) to improve our offering even further. Customer Service is still provided by our experienced staff in London.

In April 2006, we consolidated our two offices into MovieMail Towers, situated in Camden, North London.

A celebrity is a widely-recognized or famous person who commands a high degree of public and media attention. The word stems from the Latin adjective celeber meaning famous or celebrated. While fame is generally considered a necessary precondition for celebrity status, it is not always sufficient. There has to be a level of public interest in the person, which may or may not be connected to the reason they are famous. Many celebrities are only so for a certain amount of time, perhaps after appearing on a television program or doing something to cast them into the public eye, such as rowing the Atlantic Ocean or being the first to do something. There are also specialist celebrities, who are only celebrities to those who enjoy a particular subject and so consider them a celebrity.

A public figure such as a politician or CEO may be famous, but they may not become a celebrity unless public and mass media interest is piqued. For example Virgin Director Richard Branson was famous as a CEO, but he did not become a global celebrity until he attempted to circumnavigate the globe in a hot air balloon. On the other hand, mass entertainment personalities such as soap opera actors or music stars are likely to become celebrities even if the person deliberately avoids media attention.

A famous definition of celebrity comes from the cultural theorist Daniel Boorstin. In his book,The Image: A Guide to Pseudo-Events in America, he cynically describes celebrities as people well known for their "well-knowness".

A small number of celebrities can be considered 'global', in that their fame has spread across the English-speaking world and even into non-English-speaking cultures. These celebrities are often prominent political figures, Hollywood actors, globally successful pop musicians and sports stars.
